Parents and teachers also tend to be nearby to ensure that the children have something to drink and are fine to parade through the streets.
In some cases some children just get carried or are pulled along. Others are lifted or go the rest of the way in strollers.
I recommend the book " Cote Ci, Cote La (cotay see cotay la) by John Mendes to anyone who is interested in learning about the sayings and colloquial language of Trinidad. It is a dictionary that contains the most popular (and not so popular) words and phrases in the Trinidadian vernacular and is updated so you can see how much the language is changing.
